Passing and repealing laws (subject, of course, to the federal and state constitutions) are the proper functions of the legislature. That the legislature may not have reflected popular opinion in New Jersey leads into the next issue...<BR/><BR/>New Jersey voters have a chance every election to throw the rascals they have governing them out of office. They steadfastly refuse to opt for good legislators (or governors, or U.S. senators, or Presidents...). If passing bad laws is a political question (it is), then it's up to the elecorate to change affairs. New Jersey never seems to care, come election time.<BR/><BR/>At least once, it wasn't the New Jersey Supreme Court deciding what shall be the law in New Jersey.
